Christy Everett has always had an affinity for leftovers. For years as a child she played fashion designer with post-industrial scraps of nylon fabric. Her affection for the discarded and deserted continues, as does her ability to find value and new life in forgotten objects. Christy’s work incorporates by-products of manufacturing and end-of-life consumer products.
The series, Actual Deconstructivism, disassembles products including: textiles, electronics and other durable goods, to return them to their pre-assembled state. This collection reveals the components of consumer products and invites the viewer to reconnect to parts and processes creating the commonplace items we utilize every day but seldom truly comprehend.
Christy’s ability to articulate this appreciation grew during her Fine Arts studies at the University of Florida, where, in 1999, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Architectural Preservation. Christy then turned to extensive international travel to expand her vision and compile additional layers to her evolving perspective.
Christy currently lives and works in Miami, Florida. She recently founded the online company respondeshop.com, a collection of modern and sustainable furnishings. Responde products are made of environmentally responsible materials, which naturally include leftovers.
